Jacob & Jessica got married on a date that is also special to me. June 13th is my wife's birthday and this year it was her 30th(mine too!). When I told her I was going to meet a couple that had their wedding the same day as her birthday I wasn't sure what to do. When I met with Jacob and Jessica I actually met most of her family as well and I knew I was in trouble. I was excited to shoot this wedding and I knew I would have to make it up to my wife =). More about that later..
Jacob & Jessica opted to do what is called a "first look" which is where we set up an opportunity for them to see each other for the first time that day (rather than at the ceremony). Traditionally, a bride and groom will not see each other until the ceremony however a first look can be just as exciting. It also gives the couple more time to have pictures done prior to the ceremony which means less time away from their guests after the ceremony. Something to think about folks =).
I gave my wife the "day off" being her birthday and all =) so a fellow photographer friend Leric came along to help for the day. The brides mother was so cool...she thought my wife was coming so she got her a pin that said "birthday girl"..how cool is that? All the guests had hand picked pins attached to their place cards. Mine said "don't make me shoot you" with a little picture of a camera on it. Awesome.
The wedding was great. An intimate ceremony with their closest family and friends surrounding them and a reception where the party went on into the early hours of the morning. What more could you ask for! Below are some of my favorites and highlights from the day. Oh, how did I make it up to my wife you might ask? I booked us a trip to Hawaii for a week and surprised her on her birthday by telling her we were leaving Monday morning! Oh but it gets better. Monday morning bright and early we arrive at the Oakland airport and while standing in line to check our bags who strolls up....JACOB AND JESSICA! Not only were they on the same flight but they ended up sitting 3 or 4 rows ahead of us. So not only did I shoot their wedding, but I got to spend the first 5 hours of their honeymoon with them haha! Definitely a first! It's a wedding and a birthday I will never forget.
Congrats guys, you did it!
